The buttercups, bright-eyed and bold, held up their chalices of goldto catch the sunshine and the dew
Fields and fields of buttercups, a beautiful site even on a grey day. Did you know that the buttercup’s reflective ability can be attributed to a unique cellular makeup that allows the top surface of its petals to reflect yellow light with an intensity similar to glass? No, neither did I.
Also, that Buttercups contain varying amount of toxic and acid blistering compounds and should not be used internally or externally, although in the sixteenth century, it was crushed and applied to growths and lesions to make them fall off!
I love Buttercups don’t you? They had been planted as part of the Wild Meadow scheme at the Homestead Park in North Yorkshire. I’m pleased with how the buttercup picture came out, there was a rather scary one of me as I didn’t get out of the picture in time – that will not be shown!
Look at those beautiful rich shades of green of the trees, grass and leaves and how they contrast with the stunning purple Alliums and the pinks of the Rhododendrons. These were taken at the Homestead with my camera phone. I had taken my ‘big’ camera but decided not to use it.

Clever idea with the buttercups shot from behind. I’ll give that a try with flowers some time – and remember to get out of the way in time! I use that technique to shoot the ceilings of churches and cathedrals etc and have a few of my own ‘scary’ shots 😆

I love it here, there is a pond to walk around too but because there were lots of children they shut it until after half term
