The Weekend

Another busy day!

Today a bit of gardening. The cats are having a ball chasing leaves and exploring all the ‘new’ parts of the garden since I’ve cut back lots of plants!

A visit to the ever popular Living North exhibition had be drinking samples of rum, cocktails and wine at 11 o’clock in the morning! (Plus plenty of chocolate and biscuits).

The trees are looking stunning, All we needs is a huge gust of wind or a sharp front and most of the leaves will be on the floor.

More adventures tomorrow, a Textile exhibition and a Christmas Craft fair.

November fog

Today thick fog hung low over the fields and trees, reminding us that it is nearly the middle of November and that Winter will be soon here.

MIST OR FOG?

what makes one morning ‘misty’ and another ‘foggy.’

The difference is a simple matter of how far you can see through it.

If you can see more than 1,000 metres it’s called mist, but if it is thicker and the visibility drops below 1,000 metres it’s called fog.

Tidying the garden

As the nights are drawing in fast and the weather is getting colder & damper, my garden was in desperate need of a tidy up and leaves raking up. I love trees but I enjoy focusing on their beautiful leaves, with their textures and shapes, especially as their colours change into their Autumn foliage.

Beautiful Sunday

Look at that view

Sunday morning views – how beautiful is this, with York Minster in the background? Lunch and a catch-up with a friend, in a very busy York on Sunday. I was wishing that I had brought my big camera into the city, never mind. Hopefully there will be a few more glorious days like this next weekend.

A touch of frost

Well, a bit of a shock to wake up to frost on Friday. A wake up call to the fact we are starting to go into colder months.

A touch of ice on fungi

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

Dull November brings the blast;

Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Goodbye October, Hello November

“October extinguished itself in a rush of howling winds and driving rain and November arrived, cold as frozen iron, with hard frosts every morning and icy drafts that bit at exposed hands and faces.”

So tired…

Zzzzzzzzzz

Well my answer is yes, I’m feeling really exhausted and I’m so ready for a few days off coming up soon. I haven’t really been out with my camera taking any Autumnal shots yet. I’m hoping that next week might have some really lovely days so that i can go out and take my camera out again.

Robins

Name, png

For the past few weeks, every time I pop into the garden, there appears two Robins watching my every move. They wait for me to fill up the bird bath, watching me from the apple tree, or peeking through the ivy. Last year they built a nest in the ivy and laid 4 eggs, unfortunately the eggs didn’t hatch. I cleared up the bird box and I’m hoping that next year they will build their nest there again and be more successful.

Robin nest – this fits into the palm of my hand. It is made with moss, horse and cat hair/fur, an odd bit of coloured wool amongst other items.

Little Robin Redbreast sat upon a tree,

Up went Pussy-cat, and down went he;

Down came Pussy-cat, and away Robin ran;

Says little Robin Redbreast, “Catch me if you can.”

Little Robin Redbreast flew upon a wall,

Pussy-cat jumped after him, and almost got a fall;

Little Robin chirp’d and sang, and what did Kitty say?

Pussy-cat said “Mew,” and Robin flew away.
