Knaresbrough

I’ve been rather busy at work lately, hence the silence and I’ve also been busy out and about too. This weekend I went via train to the picturesque town of Knaresbrough.

The first trio of images are taken from the castle looking over the River Nidd.
The middle trio, well can you guess which is the real door (the others are actually painted).
It is painted in the style of trompe l’oeil, (French: “deceive the eye”) in painting, the representation of an object with such verisimilitude as to deceive the viewer concerning the material reality of the object.

The bottom trio are the views just as you get off the station and walk towards the river Nidd.

September flying by!

Today definitely felt Autumnal. The sun was low and bright, there was a chill in the air and leaves from the Horse Chestnut trees looked like a carpet of golden brown. Squirrels running round the trees and over the cycle track, whilst rabbits watched on from a distance. This was taken this morning and I longed to stay longer but I was on duty at work which meant I could only stop for a few minutes.

It’s September yet again, (I know it’s already been nearly a week into it) but you can definitely tell that there is a chill on a morning (and evening) and the daddy long legs (Crane flys) are starting to appear. More so if you have two cats that chase them and leave them lying about on the floor!

A Triptych of August favourites, hoping that September will be just a lovely with the turning of the leaves from green to golden hues of yellow, orange and brown.

“For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together.
For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.”
Edwin Way Teale

“Smoke hangs like haze over harvested fields,
The gold of stubble, the brown of turned earth
And you walk under the red light of fall
The scent of fallen apples, the dust of threshed grain
The sharp, gentle chill of fall.
Here as we move into the shadows of autumn
The night that brings the morning of spring
Come to us, Lord of Harvest
Teach us to be thankful for the gifts you bring us …”
