Well October flew past very quick, didn’t it? I’ve been so busy that I have lots of images to process and share with you.

I visited York Minster and its sound and light projection – Platinum and Light.

The new installation was created by award winning artists Ross Ashton and Karen Monid, who created the spectacular Northern Lights projection and sound artwork, which ran at the Minster in October 2019.

The new show takes inspiration from Her Late Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It uses precious metals through the ages, including gold, silver and platinum, to journey through key moments in York’s and the Minster’s history and their royal connections.

The events will help raise funds for the Minster’s current project to conserve the medieval St Cuthbert Window, which is one of the largest surviving narrative windows in Europe, and the stonework of the surrounding South Quire Transept.

I have a few short videos to put on here at some point, keep checking back to see if I’ve added them!

Tidying the garden

As the nights are drawing in fast and the weather is getting colder & damper, my garden was in desperate need of a tidy up and leaves raking up. I love trees but I enjoy focusing on their beautiful leaves, with their textures and shapes, especially as their colours change into their Autumn foliage.

Beautiful Sunday

Look at that view

Sunday morning views – how beautiful is this, with York Minster in the background? Lunch and a catch-up with a friend, in a very busy York on Sunday. I was wishing that I had brought my big camera into the city, never mind. Hopefully there will be a few more glorious days like this next weekend.

Well what a super bank holiday weekend. York Balloon Festival Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday. I must admit that Saturday was the most glorious day, blue clear skies, for watching the balloons take off.

Wow! From this angle it looks like a giant flower in the sky

Bee Project

Today I visited York to see the nation’s biggest bee-friendly floral display! The weather was fabulous, a great day to visit and a chance to take some lovely flower pics!

Businesses in York have come together to help the local bee population to thrive. Since Summer 2018, York BID has delivered annual floral displays to add vibrancy to the city Centre and surrounding areas. This year the BID is expanding on this project to deliver the nation’s biggest bee-friendly floral display.

Bees are pollinators and therefore crucial to our ecosystem but are sadly in decline. The BID has filled the city Centre with over 200 planters filled exclusively with bee-friendly plants. This is designed to give pollinators ‘rest stops’ so they can travel safely from green space to green space.

The project runs from 10 June- 30 September and covers the city Centre. In addition to the new planters there is also a focus on existing bee-friendly initiatives in the city as well as new ones that businesses have created to support the project. So get yourself down for a visit!
